Valentine Eleebana Cricket Club Honorary Membership

Background

In comparison to other sporting clubs the VECC is a young club with planning & commencement in the
Newcastle Junior Cricket Association (NJCA) only commencing in late 2000. The first official VECC then known as the Valentine Eleebana Junior Cricket Club match took place in October 2001. With such a young history it would almost seem premature to offer & induct people associated with the VECC into life membership. In 2006 the VECC made the decision to induct on a random basis members of the club to the status of Honorary membership.

The award of Honorary membership is given only to members who have displayed outstanding commitment to the VECC
either on or off the field.

This award is intended to recognise individuals within VECC who have contributed in their service to the club
and have extended their commitment above and beyond general membership to the club. Whilst it is not compulsory to have played for the VECC on the field to achieve this award to have service both on the field and off
reflects the importance of the contribution not only to the present but to the future existence of the club.

Service for this award is as follows:

A minimum of five years continuous service to the VECC
The occupancy of a role within the club beyond that of an ordinary member. Examples of this include a committee member or a coach or manager.

Benefits of honorary membership at Valentine Eleebana Cricket Club include the following:

Presentation of award of honorary membership at an official VECC function including presentation night
or any designated formal event. At all times the presentation of this award will be undertaken in the presence of a
considerable audience.

The recipient will receive a blue felt cap. The cap will contain embroidery the recipients name and carry the logo
of the original club name the Valentine Eleebana Junior Cricket Club.

The recipient will be except from annual club joining fees.

The recipients name, photograph and profile will be listed on the official VECC website and (in time) placed on the board in the VECC clubhouse.

Process for assessing applications for honorary membership

Applications for honorary membership should be forwarded to the VECC committee no later than the first week in February each year. Applications should demonstrate attainment of minimum service requirements and other details of exemplary service. The application will then be discussed at length and considered by the VECC committee. The successful recipient may/may not be notified about their successful application by the committee prior to receiving their award.

Life Membership

In time life membership will be awarded to members of the VECC. Life membership is the highest award available to recognise the exceptional
contribution of individuals to the VECC. It will therefore (in the future) only be awarded in exceptional circumstances.

General Considerations

In considering the award of life membership an individual should have demonstrated significant, sustained and above all high quality service
enhancing the reputation and the future of the VECC.

Service for this award

Currently the criteria for this award is being developed however, it is anticipated to be eligible for this award at a minimum the applicant should have served in a higher position (as per the honorary selection criteria at VECC) for a period no less than ten years. Therefore the VECC will not be accepting applications for life membership until after the year 2011.

The points to be taken into account when considering any future life membership nomination should include the following,

The general attitude and overall presence of the nominee to ensure the attitude is one that reflects
a dedication and commitment to the club

Commitment to the principles of good sportsmanship.

Valued leadership and good role modelling that reflects credit upon the sports club.

These points apply in whatever role the nominee has participated in during their service to the VECC
